Members form DC and Annapolis AOH gathered at the Commodore Barry memorial on May 9 to lay a wreath on the first Anniversary of the dedication of the memorial, including Baltimore Div 5 and Annapolis Division 1 at USNA.
Remarks were made by John O’Neill, President of the Commodore Barry Division, Annapolis, MD. Special thanks to George and Annette hogan for finding the perfect wreath.
Introduction:
By remembering and reflecting upon the achievements of Commodore Barry and the difficulties he experienced, we are reminded that what we have today we owe in part to men that went before us. They went on to assure a better future for their children and their children’s children, Americans of all ages can come together to renew our national spirit so that we can meet the historic challenges of our own time. It is important to engage the youth of America in an ongoing dialogue about what they can do to assure that they are able to contribute to making the world a better place in their lifetime.

Proclamations
We members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians will honor the first commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy during the dedication of a Commodore John Barry Memorial and a John Barry Memorial Gate at the Naval Academy on Saturday, May 10, 2014. The first part of the memorial was erected in January 2012 when an arch was placed over the Commodore John Barry Gate. An eight-foot-tall granite and bronze memorial will stand just inside the gate, and the area will be known as Barry Plaza. A native of Wexford, Ireland, Barry was a hero in the War of 1812.
